| Catalog Notes | A collection of nursery rhymes. Device of McLoughlin Brothers appears on p. [4] of wrapper; it is a headshot of Mother Goose portrayed as a goose wearing spectacles and a kerchief in a circular frame with the caption, "McLoughlin Brothers New York." The image is similar to a drawing by Chester Loomis housed in the McLoughlin Bros. Hosmer Archival Drawings and Prints, MS Box 5 Folder 363. Chester Loomis did commission artwork for McLoughlin between at least 1902 and 1906. Illustration style and photomechanical color print of the illustrations suggest a publication date of ca. 1915-1920. McLoughlin Brothers was sold to Milton Bradley in 1920 and the firm was moved to Springfield, Mass. Title page and p. [12] printed in color to resemble a title page. |
