| American Antiquarian Society Copy Notes | Subject: A comic horse-racing scene. On a racetrack, a young boy in ragged clothes rides a thin and wild-eyed horse with a cropped tail, using a rope for bridle and rein. At top left, in the caller's box, a bearded man with a quill behind his ear stands with both clenched fists raised in the air. A sign below him reads "$100,000 prize for the horse that beats Dexter's time!" Notes: Copyright 1873 by Currier & Ives. Above title: Time is money. Below title: Clear the track! keep out of the way! Talk is cheap and will not pay. Attention to business brings the honey, and to men as to horses, time is money. References: Currier & Ives: a catalogue raisonne?, 5364 |
