This label is pasted over another label (cancel?). Attributed variously to Fraņois-Thomas-Louis Francia and John Hill. According to Richard J. Koke's Checklist of the American engravings of John Hill, 1770-1850, 1961, p. 10, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's copy of the edition published in Philadelphia in 1818 by M. Thomas has a cover label that states: Acquatined, printed and coloured by J. Hill. In marbled boards with leather spine and corners. Plates lithographed. |
