| Catalog Notes | A prose version of Snow White and the seven dwarfs, originally collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Pages of illustrated text are alternated with pages holding two fully colored illustrations, each bearing a one-sentence caption. Title, imprint statement, and series transcribed from upper cover. Series title transposed from between title and imprint statement. Text signed on p. [11]: Grace C. Floyd. "Father Tuck" is the pseudonym of Raphael Tuck. "No[.] 1731 designed at the studios in England."--at foot of upper cover. Back cover has trademark of easel, palette, and brushes. Palette bears the title, "Artistic series." Raphael Tuck adapted the easel and palette trademark in 1880; the firm became Raphael Tuck & Sons, Ltd. in 1895; cf. Blair and Margaret Whitton, Collectors' guide to Raphael Tuck & Sons (1991), p. 6. In chomolithographed stiff-paper cover. Text and some illustrations printed in sepia ink; fully colored illustrations are chromolithographed. |
