This work is attributed to Julia Corner in the Osborne Collection of early children's books, 1476-1910: a catalogue, v. 2, p. 907-8. Series transposed from head of title page. Spine title: Sketches of boys and girls. McLoughlin Bros. was located at 24 Beekman St., New York, between 1858 and 1862. Copy in hand bears an inscription dated 1862. In red cloth. Frontispiece wood engraving features a picture of the interior of a bookstore, with a sign advertising the Little boy's & girl's library, published by McLoughlin Bros. Pagination includes [16] leaves of hand-colored, wood-engraved plates. Engravings set in creme-tinted frames. Frontispiece wood engraving signed by Edward P. Cogger. |
