[4] of wrapper; it is a headshot of Mother Goose portrayed as a goose wearing spectacles and a kerchief in a circular frame with the caption, "McLoughlin Brothers New York." The image is similar to a drawing by Chester Loomis housed in the McLoughlin Bros. Hosmer Archival Drawings and Prints, MS Box 5 Folder 363. Chester Loomis did commission artwork for McLoughlin between at least 1902 and 1906. Illustration style and photomechanical color print of the illustrations suggest a publication date of ca. 1910-1920. McLoughlin Brothers was sold to Milton Bradley in 1920 and the firm was moved to Springfield, Mass. "Joyful tales series no. 52"--series and inventory number, above McLoughlin Brothers' device, p. [4] of wrapper. "Five cent books 52 Joyful tale series ... 6.60 [per gross]"--McLoughlin Bros.' order list (ca. 1913), p. 2.
