| Catalog Notes | A collection of Mother Goose rhymes; probably edited by Sarah Schoonmaker Baker, an American writer who used the pseudonymn "Aunt Friendly" who wrote other titles published by Frederick Warne. Scribner and Co. published in New York between 1870 and 1881; cf. Charles Scribner's Sons: an illustrated chronology (http://library.princeton. edu/libraries/firestone/rbsc/aids/scribner). Book in hand looks like it was published ca. 1870. Has publisher's monogram of Frederick Warne, title page. Some illustrations signed, "S." Illustrations lithographed in color. "Edmund Evans, engraver and printer, Raquet Court, Fleet Street."--foot of back cover. "Price one shilling."--at head of cover title. Back cover has advertisements for Warne's large picture boy books, nursery rhymes and stories, and alphabets and primers. |
