| Catalog Notes | Title and imprint statement transcribed from p. [1] of printed wrapper. Cyrus G. Cooke is listed as an individual publisher at 37 and 39 Brattle St. in Boston city directories issued between 1860 and 1868. Boston directories are not available between 1869 and 1872; by 1873 Cyrus G. Cooke is listed as a member of the firm C.G. Cooke & Brother at 13 Bromfield. Copy in hand has an inscription dated 1867. Issued with blank leaves; apparently, these blank leaves were originally interleaved with tissue paper, of which eight tissue paper leaves are now extant in copy in hand. Wood engraving appearing on p. [1] of wrapper is the only illustration originally issued by the publisher. This wood engraving is signed by engraver John William Orr. "Cyrus G. Cooke, (successor to Shepard, Clark & Brown,) publisher and wholesale dealer in books and stationery"--publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper. Includes ads for Bartholomew's progressive drawing cards, and Bartholmew's drawing books. |
