| Catalog Notes | Title, statement of responsibility and imprint statement transcribed from p. [1] of printed wrapper. McLoughlin Bros., Inc. was located at 30 Beekman St., New York, between 1863 and 1869. "Half hours with the Bible. An entirely new series of Bible histories for the young. ... 6 kinds. Six others in preparation."--publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper, one copy in hand. Half hours with the Bible was listed as new in List of toy books manufactured ... by McLoughlin Bros. (1867). Another copy bears a publisher's advertisement listing Mrs. Elliott's series, Mrs. Hale's library, Willie Winkie's series, Mother's series, Aunty Kitty's series, and Aunt Mavor's series. Another title in hand bearing this advertisement has an inscription dated 1869. Last page blank; pasted to wrapper. "Mrs. Elliott's series. ... Six stories by Mrs. Elliot [sic]. Finely illustrated and colored--32 pages 4to. ... The greedy child cured" --series list, p. [4] of printed wrapper, one copy in hand. Wrapper printed in colors; hand-colored textual wood engravings are set in beige tinted squares with stenciled frames. |
