Price 2.50 a year. Messrs. Lee & Shepard, publishers, no. 149 Washinghton [sic] St. Boston Mass."--p. [1]. Lee and Shepard was located at 149 Washington St., Boston, between 1863 and 1873. Oliver Optic's magazine bore the subtitle, Our boys and girls, between Jan. 1867 and Dec. 1873. Samuel Merrill later compiled the genealogy, A Merrill memorial (Cambridge, Mass., 1928). According to this source, Samuel's father Gyles Merrill (1816-1894) worked and lived in St. Albans between 1861 and 1873; presumably Samuel and his brother Gyles (1850-1880) also lived there during that time period. Cf. A Merrill memorial, v. 1, p. 10-11; v. 2, p. 545. "Phonetic alphabet."--p. [11]. "S. Merrill is now prepared to do all kinds of printing, in the line of a first class printer. 'Jokes for the million.' ... For the very low price of 5 cents. 6 copies for 25 cents."--publisher's advertisement, p. [2]. Another publisher's advertisement, p. [12]. |
