| Catalog Notes | Cover title. By J. Baker. Welch notes that the London edition of 1813 (entitled "The poem of my Tippoo") names Baker as author. Metal-engraved text and illustrations; probably engraved by William Charles. Cf. Weiss, Harry B. William Charles, early caricaturist, engraver and publisher of children's books, New York, 1932, p. 10. Illustrations hand-colored. William Charles died on Aug. 29, 1820, and the business was continued by his wife, Mary Charles, until her death on Jan. 25, 1823. An advertisement published in Poulson's American Daily Advertiser (Philadelphia, Pa.), Dec. 18, 1823, p. 3, announced that Morgan & Yeager was selling children's books from the stock of William Charles' widow Mary, and of the firm's intent to publish children's books. Morgan & Yeager published in Philadelphia from 1823 to 1825. Pastedown endpapers of the copy in hand are the title page for A continuation of Tom the piper's son published by William Charles, and an advertisement of titles "just published" by William Charles. "Children's toy books. Embellished with neat coloured plates. Price 18 cents plain 25 cents coloured. ... And a variety of others . From 3 cents to 37 cents each. ..."--advertisement, p.
