| Catalog Notes | Multi-syllabic words divided. Wrapper imprint varies: Printed and published by Scheffer & Beck, Harrisburg, Pa. Gustav Sigismund Peters published and printed as an individual in Harrisburg from 1828 until his death in 1847. (Cf. K. Bryan, The first American color printer, 1957, p. 5.) Judging by dated imprints in RLIN, Scheffer & Beck was active about 1855. RLIN also contains an imprint by Lutz & Scheffer (presumably their predecessors) dated 1851. Copy in hand bears partly effaced inscription dated "18 and 5[--]." "Scheffer & Beck, booksellers & printers, no. 22, Market St. Harrisburg"--publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of printed wrapper. |
