McLoughlin Bros., Inc. was located at 71 & 73 Duane St. between 1871 and 1886. The earliest McLoughlin publisher's catalogue held by the American Antiquarian Society that was printed at this address was issued ca. 1875. (McLoughlin Bros., New York. Catalogue of toy books, ... for 1875-'76 (New York, [1875]). The description of Swift's combination toy blocks printed on the wrapper of the issue in hand matches that found in the publisher's catalogue, except that the wrapper advertisement states that set no. 2 contains 52 blocks, while the publisher's catalogue describes set no. 2 as having 50 blocks. This information is repeated in the catalogue for 1876-77, and by 1879, set no. 2 is advertised as containing 100 blocks. Last page blank. Illustrations produced by a relief process (zinc etching?); wrapper and illustrations printed in color. |
