| Catalog Notes | In verse. Title and imprint statement transcribed from p. [1] of printed wrapper. Series title transposed from head of title. "Swift's combination toy blocks. ... McLoughlin Bros., Manuf. 71 & 73 Duane Street, N.Y."--publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper. McLoughlin Bros., Inc. was located at 71 & 73 Duane St. between 1871 and 1886. The earliest McLoughlin publisher's catalogue held by the American Antiquarian Society that was printed at this address was issued ca. 1875. This catalogue contains the entry, "Little folks' series. Cap quarto. Six full-page pictures, printed in colors ... Sing a song of sixpence." The description of Swift's combination toy blocks printed on the wrapper of the issue in hand matches that found in the publisher's catalogue, except that the wrapper advertisement states that set no. 2 contains 52 blocks, while the publisher's catalogue describes set. no. 2 as having 50 blocks. This information is repeated in the catalogue for 1876-77, and by 1879, set no. 2 is advertised as containing 100 blocks. Wrapper and textual illustrations printed in color. Illustrations produced by a relief process (zinc etched blocks?). Last page blank. |
