| Catalog Notes | Series title transposed from head of title page. Cover title: Good little boy's book. Apparently by Julia Corner. The Osborne catalogue lists an entry for an issue of Sketches of little girls published in London by Thomas Dean and Sons ca. 1850. This issue contains the note, "Our author has published his 'Sketches of little boys' which has already reached a sixth edition." According to the Osborne catalogue, a copy of Sketches of little girls held at the Renier Collection (Bethnal Green Museum, England) bears a title page note attributing the work to Julia Corner. See Osborne Collection of early children's books, 1476-1910: A catalogue, v. 2, p. 907-8. McLoughlin Bros., Inc. was located at 30 Beekman St., New York, between 1863 and April, 1870. (See obituary for John McLoughlin, Publishers' weekly, May 6, 1905.) Pagination includes eight wood-engraved plates. Text for p. 61 misprinted on p. [64]. In printed boards with cloth spine. Boards printed in red, green, and black ink. Cover wood engraving signed by Edward P. Cogger. Wood engravings set in creme-tinted frames. |
