| Catalog Notes | Series transposed from head of title page. Cover transcription: Little boys and girls library. Good little girl's book. Edited by Mrs. Sarah J. Hale. McLoughlin Bros. Publishers. 24 Beekman St. N.Y. Apparently by Julia Corner. According to the Osborne catalogue, a copy of Sketches of little girls held at the Renier Collection (Bethnal Green Museum, England) bears a title page note attributing the work to Julia Corner. See Osborne Collection of early children's books, 1476-1910: A catalogue, v. 2, p. 907-8. McLoughlin Bros. was located at 24 Beekman St., New York between 1858 and 1862. One copy in hand bears an inscription dated 1862. Pagination includes [8] leaves of plates. In printed stiff-paper covers. Covers printed in red, blue, and green ink. "Little boys and girls library. Ten kinds. Edited by Mrs. Sarah J. Hale. New edition, with eight beautiful colored illustrations by J.H. Howard."--publisher's advertisement, lower cover. Hand-colored wood engravings set in creme tinted frames. |
