At the center, Warren dies in the arms of another American soldier, who puts up his hand to stop the bayonet of a British grenadier. A British officer, Col. Small, also grasps the grenadier's musket. At the far left, Israel Putnam raises his sword to lead the Americans in retreat. At the right, a British flag advances. At the far right, Thomas Grosvenor, an African-American, holds his rifle and stands behind an American soldier. |
