He would here say that the music, not otherwise credited, is by the late Charles Moulton, of Paris, and that the Western and Indian stories were first told by Miss M.M. Thomas, of Cincinnati."--p. viii. Includes poetry. "M.M. Thomas," identified as Martha M. Thomas in the Riverside magazine, is almost certainly Martha McCannon Thomas. Copyright 1877 by Hurd and Houghton. Copy in hand bears an inscription dated Christmas 1877. "Riverside, Cambridge: electrotyped and printed by H.O. Houghton and Company."--verso of title page. In chromolithographed boards with chromolithographed endpapers. Most if not all the illustrations previously appeared in the Riverside magazine, including illustrations there attributed to Winslow Homer, John La Farge, Sidney L.
