| Catalog Notes | Caption title: Whittington and his cat. Sylvester J. Sylvester operated a financial exchange and brokerage office in New York between 1827 and 1858. He also published a banknote and exchange manual in 1833, and published S.J. Sylvester's reporter, ca. 1840-1847. His name was not located in extant Pittsburgh directories. Issue in hand has a physical format and typographical style common in books issued in the 1820s and 1830s. |
