Most pictures have lists of words next to them with the direction "Please to point out in the picture the meaning of the words at the side of it." Munroe & Francis published in Boston from 1802 to 1853. Joseph H. Francis published at 128 Washington St., Boston, from 1836 to 1851. C.S. Francis & Co. published in New York from 1842 to 1859. Copy in hand bears inscription dated 1850. In printed wrapper. Wood-engraved illustrations variously signed "H," "Anderson" (i.e., Alexander Anderson), "A. Hartwell sc. Boston" (i.e., Alonzo Hartwell), and "AB" (i.e., Abel Bowen). Includes publishers' advertisements, [3] p. at end (p. 62-63, [1]). |
