| American Antiquarian Society Copy Notes | Subject: A vertical memorial print. A seated girl and standing boy, both in black, comfort each other. To the right is a gravestone reading "Sacred to the memory of an affectionate mother. She-she we lost was lovely and we lov'd her much, fresh in our memory, as fresh as yesterday is yet the day she died." A willow tree is behind the gravestone. A small dog sits to the left of the boy and girl. Rose bushes frame the foreground. In the far left background is a church steeple partially hidden by a stand of trees. Notes: "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1848, by James Baillie, in the clerk's office of the District Court of the Southn. Distt. of N.Y." Local Notes: American Antiquarian Society copy inscribed: Mrs. Leran no. 11 N. 10 st. Friday 1 1/2 in bronze. |
