| Catalog Notes | Poems with pictures, without a collective title. Title taken from p. [1] of wrapper. A collection of poems, perhaps by various authors. The only poem for which a conclusive attribution was found is the first poem in this collection, The orphan, by Jane Taylor. See C.D. Stewart's attribution in her Taylors of Ongar, A1 (description of Original poems for infant minds, v. 2, poem no. 45). The text of The orphan printed in the issue in hand is identical to that found in an issue of Original poems for infant minds (Philadelphia, 1850; Taylors of Ongar, A1qqq), p. 141. Wrapper engraved on metal. The first and last poems in the text (The orphan, A dialogue) are replicated with their illustrations on p. [1] and [4] (respectively) of wrapper. Text and illustrations engraved on metal. The style is similar to that found in the metal-engraved chapbooks of the Philadelphia firm of Morgan & Yeager (ca. 1824-1825). |
