| Catalog Notes | Issued with eleven other titles in a 11 x 8 x 3 cm. red cloth-bound clamshell box designed like a book. Upper cover bears the series title, "My little box of books," surrounded by a gilt stamp. Spine title statement, "My little box of books with colored pictures," also surrounded by gilt stamps. "Edges" of mock book covered with gilt paper. Leavitt & Allen published in New York between 1852 and at least 1876. "My little box of books. Twelve volumes. With brightly-colored pictures. ... New York: published by W.H. Appleton, 92 and 94 Grand Street."--numbered series list, inside upper cover of box. William Henry Appleton was listed alternately at 92 and 94 Grand St. between 1865 and 1867. (He was listed at 96 Grand St. in 1866.) In printed wrapper. Wood engravings hand-colored. |
