Variant issues noted: issue in hand has the poem, "The dunce of a kitten" on p. [11]; in another issue, the poem, "The new book" appears on p. [11]. Text printed on cloth. The McLoughlin Bros. trade catalogue for 1867 lists the Little Slovenly Peter series as new--"Linen--Little Slovenly Peter a series of large 18mo. Toys. 6 kinds. Printed in oil, covers in gilt ... per gross, 24.00." See list of toy books manufactured for Wm. H. Hill, Jr. & Co., 30 & 32 Cornhill, Boston, Mass. by McLoughlin Bros. 1867. Last page blank; pasted to wrapper. Wrapper printed in black and gilt ink. Illustrations printed in color by a relief process (zinc etching?). Publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper, lists the following series as new: Mother's series, Father's series, Susie Sunshine's series, Fairy Moonbeam's series, Peter Prim's series, and Little Slovenly Peter. |
