| Catalog Notes | Title, imprint statement, and series transcribed from p. [1] of printed wrapper. Series transposed from between title and imprint statement. The Fairy Moonbeam's series was published by McLoughlin Brothers between ca. 1863 and 1875; the series title changed to Fairy Moonbeam series in the McLoughlin publisher's catalogue issued in 1876. Illustrations appear to be executed in the style of Justin H. Howard, who illustrated a significant body of McLoughlin picture books from this time period. "McLoughlin Bros., 30 Beekman Street, New York"--publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper. The McLoughlin firm was located at 30 Beekman St. between 1863 and 1869. Publisher's advertisement includes advertisements for paper dolls and paper furniture. The paper dolls are arranged in four numbered series. The catalogue, List of toy books manufactured ... by McLoughlin Bros. (New York, 1867) contains listings for these four series, but series one and two are comprised of two subseries; the second subseries of series one and two are not listed in the publisher's advertisement in the issue in hand. Wrapper and illustrations printed in colored ink. Wrapper wood engraving signed by Edward P. Cogger. |
