| Catalog Notes | In verse. Title, imprint statement, and series transcribed from p. [1] of wrapper. Series transposed from head of wrapper. Probably by Laura Valentine. The story collection, Aunt Louisa's birthday gift (London: F. Warne & Co., 1873?), attributed to Laura Valentine by New York Public Library in NUC pre-1956, includes Hector the dog. Publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of wrapper, includes Over the hills "with designs by Miss Ida Waugh." Over the hills was copyrighted by McLoughlin Bros. in 1882. Several other works mentioned in advertisement were advertised as "New stock for the seasons of 1882 and 1883" in the McLoughlin Bros. catalogue for that year, including The cruise of the walnut shell, Hans Thumbling, Pantomime toy books, and Greenaway Mother Goose. Copy in hand bears the editorial annotation, "Copyrighted 1889." Text printed in two columns. Cover printed in red, green, yellow, and black ink. Pagination: [1], 2, [1], 3-4, [2], 5-6, [1], 7-8. Full-page illustrations chromolithographed. "The wolf and the seven kids."--poem, p. [11-12]. "The three little dogs."--poem, p. [12]. |
