A humorous adaptation of Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. Illustrated by relief prints drawn to resemble childlike caricatures drawn on a blackboard. Cover title varies: To the admirers of native but uncultured genius: this version of Robinson Crusoe done with slate pencil in the manner of the very earliest masters is submitted by McLoughlin Bros, New York. Caption and running title: Robinson Crusoe. Imprint statement transcribed from foot of upper cover. "Uncle Cefil's series, (new.) ... Dame Dingle's series, (new.) ... Joyful tales, (new.)"--publisher's advertisement, lower cover. In the trade catalogue, List of toy books manufactured ... by McLoughlin Bros. (1867), Uncle Cefil's series was listed as new; Dame Dingle's series and Joyful tales was listed as being in press. Cover printed in color. Textual illustrations printed in white ink on a black background within a frame tinted light red.
