Catalog Notes |
Chiefly nursery rhymes with pictures. Includes a prose story, "A happy day in Goose Village" on p. 2 and 15-16. Issue in hand was apparently issued by Cowell & Hubbard as some sort of commercial premium for patrons. "Dear Friend: We take pleasure in presenting you with this little picture book ... And if it incidentally arouses a kindly interest in us and our service ... we shall feel doubly repaid."--title page, in between statement of responsibility and imprint statement. "Copr The Knapp Co., Inc. N.Y."--copyright statement, at foot of p. [1] of wrapper. An RLIN search located a record describing a similar copy held at Brown University given the tentative publication date of 1915, but with no justification for that date. The RLIN search also located a longer compilation (125 p.), also titled Mother Goose and her goslings. This issue names Rose Allyn as the compiler, and gives a definite publication date of 1918. An RLIN search of sheet music found a record describing an item published in 1919 containing a pictorial design created by "Knapp Co., Inc., N.Y." Chromolithographed wrapper and illustrations. Illustrations and text appear within pictorial frames.
