Includes directions for games that can be played while reciting the rhymes. Running title: Mother Goose's melodies. One copy in hand has an inscription dated 1878. Publisher's advertisement, lower cover of another copy in hand lists the games Captive princess, Cats and mice, Life's mishaps, Tousel, Ambuscade, and Go-Bang (all at 1.00 each); and Pilgrim's progress, John Gilpin, Monopolist, and Mon and Cash (all at 1.75 each). The publisher's catalog for 1876-77 does not list Cats and mice. McLoughlin Brothers' catalogue (1879) lists all of these games at slightly higher prices. A catalog for 1878 was not available. Pagination includes title plate. Illustrations printed in color by a relief process (zinc etching). Illustrations variously signed by "Howard del." (i.e., Justin H. Howard), "EGD" (p. 36; i.e., Edward Gurdon Dalziel), "HSM" (p. 113; i.e., Henry Stacy Marks), "Arnold sc" (p. 117), and "Dalziel." Archival watercolor drawings from the McLoughiln archives for some of these illustrations are housed in Graphic Arts McLoughlin Collection. Hosmer MSS Box 3 Folders 230-233.
