In verse. Rhymed version of The goose that laid the golden eggs. Cover title: Grandfather Lovechild's Mother Goose. Caption title: Mother Goose. By Lawrence Lovechild. Mistakenly attributed by Sinclair Hamilton in Early American book illustrators and wood engravers to Lady Ellenor Fenn (1744-1813). "Colored juvenile books, published by Robert F. Simpson, Philadelphia."--publisher's advertisement, p. [4] of printed wrapper. Robert F. Simpson was listed as a publisher in Philadelphia directories between 1867 and 1869. (He was also listed as a news agent in directories for 1864 and 1865.) Cover printed in red and green ink. Wood engravings signed "Darley del.," "Brightly sc.," "Gilbert & Gihon sc.," "B.F. Waitt sc.," and "J. Downes sc." Wood engravings hand-colored under the direction of the publisher. Grandfather Lovechild. Size double cap quarto, 12 kinds. ... Mother Goose--8 [illustrations]"--p.
